Local Government Welcomes new Minister
Media Release:11/07/2005
LGANT President Alderman Kerry Moir welcomed today’s announcement by the Chief Minister Clare Martin that Elliot McAdam has been appointed as Local Government Minister in Labor’s second term ministry.
“I look forward to meeting Minister McAdam as soon as possible and from what I have heard about the Minister I am sure we will be able to continue on the good relationship the Association had with former Minister Ah Kit”, Alderman Moir said.
“Minister McAdam has had extensive experience in the public and private sector and before entering politics was CEO of Julalikari Council Aboriginal Corporation in Tennant Creek”, said Alderman Moir.
Alderman Moir said that officers at LGANT have worked closely with Minister McAdam during his time at Julalikari and as the Member for Barkly.
“It is clear the Minister has a strong interest in service delivery, particularly to remote areas”, said Alderman Moir.
Alderman Moir also said she also was pleased with the new departmental structure and the new Department of Local Government, Housing and Sport.
“There was confusion between the development of Regional Councils and Regional Development Boards and now that they are in separate Departments the distinction will be more easily understood”, Alderman Moir said. ENDS
