LGANT President resigns to conteat NT election.
Media Release:01/06/2005
The President of the Local Government Association, Mayor Fran Kilgariff has resigned as the President of LGANT, and as Mayor of Alice Springs Town Council to contest the NT election.
The new President and former Vice President of LGANT Alderman Kerry Moir from the Darwin City Council today congratulated the outgoing President saying that she had made a major contribution to the Association and Alice Springs during her time in local government.
“Fran has been a strong advocate for the role of Local Government, both in the Northern Territory and nationally as a board member of the Australian Local Government Association”, new President Alderman Kerry Moir said.
“The Association has had some major wins under Fran’s leadership including the recently announced indexation of the operational grant to local government and the provision of vehicles for Aboriginal Community Police Officers”, said Alderman Moir.
“I intend to carry on the good work that Fran has done including addressing of the major challenges facing local government nationally in the immediate future – that is to convince the Federal Government to implement the recommendations of the parliamentary report released in November last year, “Rates and Taxes: A Fair Share for Responsible Local Government”.
Alderman Moir has been a member of the LGANT Executive for the past five years and an Alderman on the Darwin City Council for thirteen years and brings a wealth of experience to the Presidency.ENDS
