Local Government to hold Regional meeting in Alice Springs.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT TO HOLD REGIONAL MEETING IN ALICE SPRINGS
There will be a record attendance at the Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT) regional meeting that will be held in Alice Springs from Wednesday 9 to Friday 11 March 2005 . The meeting, which will be held at the Centre for Appropriate Technology has attracted 40 delegates from 17 Councils from the Alice Springs and Barkly Regions.
“It is a great endorsement of the work and relevance of the Association that we are getting almost one hundred percent attendance at this meeting”, President Mayor Fran Kilgariff said today.
“On the first afternoon there will be information sessions on local roads issues in the region, including the Commonwealth’s Roads to Recovery Program followed by a session on Natural Resource Management”, said Mayor Kilgariff .
“The second day will be spent discussing many business items including, the Local Government Accounting Code and the proposed new methodology by the Northern Territory Grants Commission, and many ther issues raised by our members”, said Mayor Kilgariff.
“On the final morning we have invited the Office of Indigenous Policy and the Department of Local Government to give members a briefing on the new arrangements for Indigenous Affairs ”, Mayor Kilgariff said.
