Local Government Association elects Alice Springs Mayor Fran Kilgariff as President.
Mayor of Alice Springs, Fran Kilgariff has been elected President of the Northern Territory Local Government Association at their Annual General Meeting held in Darwin yesterday.
“I am pleased and proud to have been elected by my colleagues to lead the Association through the next two years”, Mayor Kilgariff said. “Local Government in the Northern Territory is facing some exciting challenges and I am confident that the new Executive has the balance and experience to face those challenges”, Mayor Kilgariff said.
“Issues such as cost shifting and Roads to Recovery are of particular importance, but also the upcoming changes in indigenous affairs will have a direct effect on most of our member councils”, said Mayor Kilgariff.
“I am very pleased that we have two very respected indigenous leaders on our new Executive in President Gus Williams from Ntaria Council and President Peter Gunner from Urapuntja Council, their input to the Executive will be invaluable”, Mayor Kilgariff said.
