Record Attendance For Local Government Conference

There will be a record attendance at the Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT) conference and general meeting on 13/14 October 2004. The conference, which will be held at the Darwin City Council has attracted 120 delegates from 43 Councils from all parts of the Northern Territory.
“It is a great endorsement of the work and relevance of the Association ” President Mayor Fran Kilgariff said today.
“Speakers at the meeting will include Australian Local Government Association President Mike Montgomery, Local Government Minister John Ah Kit and political analyst Dean Jaensch”, said Mayor Kilgariff .
“Elections for the Executive to take the Association through until October 2006 will also take place and we have had a total of 28 nominations for the eight positions, which is a very healthy sign for the future of the Association”, said Mayor Kilgariff.
“The Association also have a number of important business items to discuss, including the 50KPH default speed limit, a partnership agreement with the Northern Territory Government , and the possibility of an alliance with the Northern Territory Government for the new Roads to Recovery program”, Mayor Kilgariff stated.
