Local Government welcomes promise to boost road funding
Media Release:09/09/2004

The Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT) today welcomed the promise by Shadow Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Martin Ferguson in Darwin today to provide an additional $19 million over four years to improve local roads on unincorporated land in the Northern Territory.

“I particularly welcome the decision to establish a partnership model with the Northern Territory Government, the Cattlemen’s Association, Aboriginal communities and local government to decide on strategic projects for all Territorians”, said LGANT President Mayor Fran Kilgariff.

“The ‘bush’ had missed out on road funding because it was not incorporated under local government and while this remained the case the commitment for additional funding will be welcome news for our remote members”, Mayor Kilgariff said.
