Former Local Government minister wished well in retirement
Media Release:29/06/2007
The President of the Local Government Association of the Northern Territory, Alderman Kerry Moir wished former Minister and Shadow Minister for Local Government Dr. Richard Lim well in his retirement.
“The Local Government Association supported the first steps taken towards reform when Dr Lim was Minister”, Alderman Moir said.
“I can remember at the LGANT General Meeting in Alice Springs in May 2001 when then Minister Lim announced the formation of the Tiwi Islands Local Government (TILG).
“This announcement was met with some trepidation by our members and also some resistance, not everyone agreed, but now six years later major reform in local government in the Northern Territory is well underway.
“Dr Lim will also be remembered in Local Government circles as a former Alderman on the Alice Springs Town Council for 8years from 1984 to 1982 before being elected to Parliament.
“I am sure I speak for many of my colleagues in wishing Richard a happy retirement and all the best for him and his family in the future”. Ends
29 June 2007
