Local Government Councils meet in Alice Springs to discuss reform
Media Release:13/04/2007
More than 70 delegates from over 30 councils are meeting in Alice Springs on the 18 and 19 April 2007 to discuss numerous issues but foremost on the agenda will be local government reform announced last year by the Local Government Minister, Elliot McAdam. Minister McAdam will be addressing the meeting on the first morning of the meeting.
“The Association is very appreciative that Minister McAdam has been able to attend our meeting prior to the beginning of parliamentary sittings to personally address our meeting” LGANT President Alderman Kerry Moir said today. “Members are very keen to put their views on the reform proposals directly to him”.
“Councils across the Northern Territory have had a number of regionally based meetings to discuss the reform but this is the first opportunity this year for us to get together to share ideas, information and experiences”, said President Moir . “It is intended members can ask questions and seek clarification directly from a panel of local government representatives on the Minister’s Advisory Board, including the chair, Patrick Dodson if he is available”.
“A guest speaker at the meeting will be Councillor Dick Gross, the President of the Municipal Association of Victoria. Victoria went through major reform under the Kennett Government and it will be interesting for members to hear his experiences and the outcomes of that reform process”, President Moir stated. “There will also be an opportunity prior to the meeting for CEOs to talk to the CEO of the Western Australian Local Government Association regarding reform of local government in Western Australia”. Ends
13 April 2007
