LGANT welcomes announcement of Local Government Advisory Board
Media Release:15/12/2006

LGANT President, Acting Lord Mayor Kerry Moir today welcomed the announcement by the Acting Minister for Local Government, Paul Henderson of the membership of the Local Government Advisory Board.

“The Association is relieved the Board has formally been announced and is very pleased with the make up of the Board,” said Acting Lord Mayor Moir. “Clearly it is essential that local government is well represented on the Board and I am very happy with the representation that we have achieved. We can now look forward to analysing the pros and cons of new models for local government configuration and operation in the Northern Territory”.

“The idea of having core members supported by a northern and southern board is innovative and should ensure strong local government representation from all regions”.

“The LGANT Executive put forward Vice President (Community) Ray Wooldridge to the Minister as LGANT’s representative. Ray is President of the Pine Creek Council and is very passionate about local government reform. I am confident he will represent LGANT member interests with enthusiasm”, said Ms Moir.

“It is also pleasing that LGANT CEO, Tony Tapsell is on the Board representing the Local Government Managers Association. Tony will bring a wealth of remote and municipal experience to the Board that I am sure will be appreciated by all the Board members”.

“The Board has an excellent balance of regional and municipal councils, indigenous and non indigenous members, bureaucrats, industry groups and elected members. I congratulate them all and look forward to the results of the Boards consultations”, said Acting Lord Mayor Moir.
