Local Government head welcomes return to democracy at Jabiru
Media Release:29/05/2006
The President of the Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT), today congratulated the town of Jabiru that they had returned to democracy following the elections of a new local government council last Saturday. Jabiru had been under an administrator since the previous council was dismissed in 2004.
“I congratulate the newly elected members and I look forward to meeting with representatives from the council at upcoming meetings of LGANT”, Alderman Moir said.
“The new Council is very well balanced with a mixture of experience and new enthusiasm and it is also important that women and indigenous people are represented on Council”, said Alderman Moir.
“It is also important to mention those people who contested the election and not elected”, said Alderman Moir. “It is important to have a strong field of candidates and I thank them for participating”.
“In the past the Jabiru Council has always been a strong supporter of the Association and LGANT held an information session at Jabiru earlier this year for people considering nomination for Council”, said Alderman Moir.
