COUNCILS GATHERING FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT CONFERENCE AND GENERAL MEETING
Over 80 delegates from 37 councils are meeting in Darwin from 9 to 12 May 2006 to hear presentations from several notable speakers and also to discuss issues facing local government in the Northern Territory.
“It is great to have such a wonderful attendance and is an endorsement of the work of the Association ” LGANT President Alderman Kerry Moir said today.
“Speakers at the meeting will include, Local Government Minister Elliot McAdam, Police Minister Paul Henderson and Federal President of the Australian Labor Party, Warren Mundine”, said President Moir .
“There will also be a presentation by Bernie Cronin, a Director at the Wyndham City Council in Victoria on how “Social Planning Adds Value and Influence to Local Government”.
“The Association also has a number of important business items to discuss, including the adoption of the Association’s Business and Strategic Plans, the purchase of new premises for the Association and the roll out of Opal fuel in the Northern Territory ”, President Moir stated. “It will also be an opportune time to discuss any implications tonights Federal budget may have on our members”.
The NT Branch of Local Government Managers Australia is also taking the opportunity to hold a meeting on Friday 12 May 2006 which will be addressed by senior bureaucrats from the Northern Territory and Federal Government. Ends
