Local Government pays tribute to Jawoyn leader

Vice President of the Local Government Association of the Northern Territory President
Ray Wooldridge today joined leaders from across Australia in offering condolences to
the Jawoyn people on the passing of the Executive Director of the Jawoyn Association, Mr Lee.
“Mr Lee was one of the first Indigenous council clerks in local government when he took on the position of council clerk at the Barunga Community Government Council”, said President Wooldridge.
“He was a man of vision and was committed to improving the lot of the Jawoyn people. He was a strong advocate for the establishment of indigenous enterprises on the Jawoyn lands and the successful joint enterprise and development of the NitmilukNational Park is just one example of this” said President Wooldridge.
“Mr Lee’s strong negotiating skills and business acumen has ensured a strong foundation for the Jawoyn people”, President Wooldridge said.
“Mr Lee also played a major role in the establishment of the Nyirranggulung Mardrulk Ngadberre Regional Council, chairing the initial meetings and playing a leading role in the sensitive negotiations that took place”, said President Wooldridge. ends
