The Association employs professional staff to manage and implement Association decisions, policies and plans and provide a range of services to members, including:

• Attending meetings and writing to represent local government views on issues to the NT and Federal Governments, non-government agencies and the NT community and lobby governments on funding, legislation and intergovernmental relations issues affecting local government in the NT;

• Providing Human Resources Mgt and industrial relations advice and assistance to member organisations to assist them in their role as employers of staff;

• Providing Transport & Infrastructure , Natural Resource Management , IT Services and Grant Information to member councils;

• Encouraging and supporting local government best practice;

• Contributing at the national level to the work of the Australian Local Government Association .

• Providing members with up-to-date information on local government issues via the weekly newsletter, This Week at LGANT ;

• Providing training to elected members and staff;

• Promoting local government in the Northern Territory;

• Encouraging community and networking between local government bodies in the NT through meetings; and

• Establishing group or joint schemes which provide benefits and/or savings to members.
